He was a teacher in Rijssen and moved to a position as a French highschool teacher at the 2nd O.H.S (a school specializing in business subjects) in Amsterdam. He also was a tranlator.
The family first was able to receive a 'Barneveld' certificate, which greatly delayed their deportation. Towards the end of the war they were in Terezin (Theresienstadt). Towards the end of the war the children were exchanged with a group of inmates via Switzerland to Palestine in exchange for trucks.
They lived in Amsterdam, Fred.Hendrikplantsoen 91 and E.de Wolffstraat 6: 438 Sochnut Holland, sent 24/12/43 by lettermail 2426/381/7/989 to allied mandate government, received there M/438/43 and transfered 30/12/43 to government secretariat. Transfered on 24/12/43 by Sochnut to representative in Constantinople, and on 4/1/44 to London by 'airgraph'. the certificate was sent by wire on 26/12/43 to the Red Cross in Geneva. This certificate only mentions Leon and his daughter Roza.
