Arthur James Towers arrived at 13 y.o. in 1836 to Buenos Aires, with his mother, Phoebe Rowe, then a widow, and her sister.

The mother of Phoebe Rowe, her siblings, and her stepfather, John Alexander, were already in Argentina since 1825. In 1836 Phoebe married John Thompson. A few years later Arthur James Towers was a teacher at the Saint Andrew Scottish School. He married in 1849 Mary Duncan Dick, also a teacher in the same school. Later the Towers moved to Montevideo. He established there the firm Bell Towers & Co.
