[1398]
Daniel MacKinley arrived to Montevideo in 1807 after the first English Invasion. He probably returned to England in the same year. However, he was back by 1810, this time in Buenos Aires, when he was expelled after a dispute for comercial interests mixed with political and military intrigues. He returned in 1811 to become one of the very successful English businessmen who took over the decaying commerce of the Spanish.

In 1822 he was a founder member of the Banco de Buenos Aires (or Banco de Descuentos), and in 1824 he was a director of the Inmigration Comission of the govenment of Rivadavia, the first president of Argentina. Mackinley invested in land, so as many of his fellow countrymen did. His properties were located between Chascomus and Ranchos.

The Mackinlay family lived in a country estate located in what is calles today the Parque Lezama, in Buenos Aires. Many British visitors enjoyed the hospitality of the family. One of them was the young William Miller, who once when doubting about his future as a militar was discouraged to a commercial career by Hannah Lindo, following a long sequel of military endeavors in the War of Independence of Latin America. Also the brothers Robertson stayed there; one of them, William, married Harriet, one of the MacKinley girls. Daniel Mackinley died in 1826. The main house in his estate is now the Museum of National History.
